Founder Context: The Origin of “Ariginal”
Ariginal began as a personal correction — a deliberate shift in spelling meant to reclaim a word that never fully reflected the identity it was attached to. The “A” is intentional. It stands for American, Ancestral, andAuthentic all at once. It’s a marker that the story behind the clothing is not generic, not borrowed, and not diluted. It signals that this brand is rooted in a specific cultural memory and a lived experience that deserves to be named clearly.
Growing up, I saw how often Black American history was referenced without being fully honored. Our stories were shortened, softened, or stripped of the context that gave them power. When I created Ariginal, I wanted a name that forced a pause — something that made people look twice and ask why. That second look is the doorway to the truth.
The brand’s mission references the historical term“American Negro” because it reflects a real era, a real identity, and a real struggle that shaped generations. I use it intentionally, not to define every Black American today, but to acknowledge the people whose contributions built the cultural foundation we stand on. It’s a term tied to a specific time, a specific fight, and a specific pride — and honoring it matters.
Ariginal exists to revive roots, reclaim royalty, and restore context to the culture. Every piece is a reminder that identity is not accidental. It’s inherited, protected, and carried forward. The name reflects that responsibility.
